Leaving His Mark

I watched with delight as my son pedaled up ahead of us (my daughter and I) today as we walked to the local shops to buy an ice block.

He got the bike from Santa. Only a few weeks ago he looked so small on that bike and was a bit wobbly and had a few stacks. Today he had confidence, he pedalled with confidence. It rode like he had mastered it (mastered bike riding with training wheels, is still a step in the journey, lol).

His newest trick is to put on the back foot brake and make skids. Typical boy, loves the thrill of stopping suddenly and also loves 'leaving his mark' on the world. The only thing is, that when he does this trick he is watching where he has been and not concentrating on the road ahead. The more I watched my son 'looking back' the more I realised he was more likely to fall. He had taken his eyes off the road or the journey and was so much more likely to stumble.

I was immediately inspired by my son. So often we spend so much time looking back and concentrating on what we have done or I guess in some cases what we didn't do. Don't you think it is time to stop that? Let's concentrate on the road ahead. We still have the opportunity to change that route. The mark that we left has been done....
