We were driving through McDonald's Drive Thru (I know bad food, but I do like the coffee). Both kids were in the back. We have talked to the little machine and placed our order and drove up to the next window.
A lovely teen girl, smiled at us through the window, asked us for our money, exchanged in some niceties about the day, gave us our change and told us to move to the next window and have a nice day. It was probably a minute interaction if that!
Miss 3 pipes up from the back, 'oh what a lovely girl'.
I suddenly realised that this was a teachable moment. I asked my kids what was it that made her lovely? Do you think it is nice to be lovely?
As the conversation followed the progression that I was hoping it would I then asked them...'so she was lovely, do you think you are lovely?' and of course they said yes, because the characteristics that they were drawn to in that girl, they could see in themselves!
Had a teachable moment recently? Please share...
